About professional Practice

Professional practice underpins many key factors that embrace the code of ethics and codes of conduct that adhere to the relevant company’s criteria. Moreover, within the child and community sector it is vital that an individual upholds a standard of professional practice when working with vulnerable bodies. In addition to this, it encompasses the notion of maintaining confidentiality, the language and tone used when working with clients. In all, these components are of great significance to my professional development that I will confidently adopt and continue to practice and progress throughout my professional career.

About Interprofessionalism

Interprofessionalism is vital when working with vulnerable individuals as well as it is in any respective field. Therefore, it is integral for persons within the child and community industry to have the ability to collaborate with diverse agencies. Essentially, there will come a time where the need to cooperate with authoritative bodies such as the police force, psychologists, social workers, case managers; in order to discuss and come to a consensus encompassing the clients progress, solutions, consequences and overall wellbeing. In return, through working with inter agencies it has a positive effect among the experiences of service users, caregivers and service providers.

About Ethical practice

Upholding and maintaining the core values and principles in fields concerning children and communities is undoubtedly pertinent. Likewise, ethical practice encourages workers to act in ethically accountable ways in pursuit of the profession’s objectives. In addition to this, it embodies core principles such as maintaining confidentiality, transparency and Integrity with clients as well as work colleagues. My comprehension of ethical practice within the relevant fields to my degree is that it is an academic discipline that adopts a practice-based framework; primarily enabling change, progression, social solidity, liberation and the empowerment of persons.

Generic Skills

I have established proficient interpersonal and communication skills that will enable me to work with diverse clients in terms of having the ability to build rapport, maintain a professional relationship and adapting to different behaviours and personalities. Within the child and community sector, you are bound to encounter numerous situations where you interact with service users who may have unpleasant demeanours and punitive attitudes; granting, with the skills I obtain I am confident in my ability to remain in a professional manner and continue my obligation to the clients. I highly implement the concept of using a strength-based approach when working with clients as I believe they attain the power in being their own change agents.

Specialised Skills

My involvement in working in the aged care sector and persons with physical and mental disabilities has developed my capability in upholding transparent and relevant case notes at any given time. Additionally, having been continuously exposed to circumstances where I have worked alongside clients in assessing their needs has resulted in my familiarity with the referral procedures and processes. In conjunction with this, through these experiences I am highly capable in monitoring and supporting service users in order to maximise customer satisfaction all while excelling in my workplace’s expectations.

1. Community funding application development skills

Within my final year of my degree, I had undertaken the unit Contemporary Social Issues and Professional Practice which gave me the opportunity to collaborate with my peers in order to formulate a social initiative. In addition to this, the social initiative focused on the Indigenous community in Bourke and the need for services that caters to domestic violence victims and survivors. Furthermore, within this task it was paramount that collective and individual research was conducted regarding the demographics and Indigenous background in Bourke and that distinct tasks were allocated to each individual for greater time efficiency. Moreover, costs of features such as running the service, appropriate location for the facility, staff and the training they must undertake and insurance. This revealed the rigorous process one must consider when constructing a community funding application and the different elements that are incorporated throughout the course of action.

Applied debating: Developing position papers

Applied debating and developing position papers incorporates a number of key elements. In formulating this particular text, it required me to critically reflect, research and gather intel on the desired topic I am passionate about, in which focused on the links between government assistance towards the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities regarding their overall Health. Within my final semester of my bachelor’s degree, I am able to effectively demonstrate my understanding of debate as a process of inquiry and advocacy and confidently attain the ability in applying it within a workplace context.
